Stations of the People

Dear Friends,

The month of August for many people is a time for a rest, a holiday or simply a break from routine activities and in some ways that is the case with Church life. Regular organisations and meetings close down temporarily, to offer both leaders and participants, hopefully, the opportunity for relaxation and refreshment. But it seems that it is not only schools and colleges that regard September as an opportunity for making a new start!

As August faded into September, St. Lukeís has changed gear, and already 25 pilgrims have enjoyed a fantastic long weekend at Walsingham, and have returned brimming with wonderful accounts of renewed faith, uplifted hearts, answers to prayer and rejoicing in shared fellowship and friendship.

Our new Mission Apprentice, Hayley Melling has arrived and will be with us for the next two years. She has responded with great enthusiasm to Godís call to work here in Kingstanding and will be trying to meet and work with children and young families in this community. She will need friendship and support from all of us.

Our other exciting venture is the launch on September 8th of Lukkies Pop-In. It will open every Tuesday from 11.00 a.m. until 3.00 p.m. and will offer to anyone who comes in, a warm, friendly environment, free tea or coffee and the opportunity to simply sit and chat for a while.

Have you spotted a theme running through all these September events? It is all about reaching out to others and offering friendship. Why is this important? Well, as Christians we are called to follow the example of Jesus. He had twelve very close friends: his disciples, but wherever he went he spoke to strangers, to people who were in trouble or sick, to the lonely and the grieving and especially to children. He always had time for others. He calls each one of us to do the same.

May God bless you all as you seek to do his will,

Father Barry
