Kindred Spirits

Hello! I'm Roy, a member of Kindred Spirits, which is a group set up to give comfort and support to those suffering bereavement.

We are not counsellors, just people who have suffered bereavement ourselves and understand what people are going through.  Everyone who wishes to come to our group will be made most welcome and are offered refreshments.

We will also arrange a visit to our group from time to time by professionals.

If you feel Kindred Spirits could benefit you, we meet every Monday from 2pm to 3.30pm (excluding Bank Holidays) at Saint Luke's Church Centre, Caversham Road, Kingstanding.

Further details from Father Darren on 0121 354 3281.

Home-Start Kingstanding

Home-Start is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer support, friendship and practical help to families under stress who have at least one child under 5 years of age who live in the wards of Kingstanding, Ocsott and Perry Barr.  Home-Start offers help by visiting families at home and also by offering support at its family groups.

Volunteers are from various backgrounds and can be of all ages, status, race, creed, colour or gender.  Volunteers are people who are parents themselves, so understand the pressures of family life. They use the skills and experiences they have gained from being a parent, to help support families. They offer informal support from one parent to another.

Home-Start Kingstanding offers: regular support, friendship, practical help and a listening ear.

Any one who would like support or is interested in becoming a volunteer should contact the Home-Start office on 0121 258 8303 or Janet on 07912855626 or by email hskingstanding@aol.comor further information follow the link to the Home-Start web-site.

46th Birmingham Rainbows

Rainbow Guides are the youngest members of Girlguiding UK. They are between five and seven years old. We meet in St. Luke’s Church Hall once a week during term time and have lots of fun.

We have a programme called the Rainbow Jigsaw which is based on Look, Learn, Laugh and Love and we take part in all sorts of activities in and out of doors - exploring, sharing and discovering. We have our own adventures and also learn to be kind and helpful to others.  Rainbows play games, paint, draw and make things. We also enjoy listening to stories and singing songs. Recently we have been on trips to Legoland and Sutton Park and we will be visiting a wildlife centre in the near future. All rainbows make a simple promise on joining:

I promise to do my best, to love my God, and to be kind and helpful.
