Our Future Aspirations

We rejoice in all that is presently good, positive and worthwhile, yet we recognise need to explore and find new ways of being church in this place.  Because the Parish Church is now effectively full every Sunday, our mission has become limited by success in a building no longer capable of expansion.  We need to think about ways of establishing other acts and ways of worship, to both widen our appeal and allow us to grow numerically and in service to the community.

We want to forward the growth and joy that has been the hallmark of the Parish over the last years.  While many have been dispirited over the last decade or more, Saint Luke’s has successfully fostered the vision of the late Bishop John Richards who dared to hope for ‘centres of excellence’ within the ‘traditionalist’ constituency from which others might draw inspiration and hope – ‘beacon churches’.

Education is one of our mission priorities.  It is important that, when so many have undertaken courses of study, our lay people be set free and empowered to reach out in pastoral love to their neighbours. 

We want to maximise the opportunities afforded us by so many Occasional Offices, and take forward the cordial relationships we presently enjoy in schools and community with the many young people for whom this estate is home; and with those who already belong, we want to explore how best to serve their needs and retain them as part of the church family as the grow beyond childhood into young adulthood.

And we need to be helped embrace modern technology in both teaching and worship.

PCC and Incumbent are happy to embrace change in order to bring more people to a saving knowledge of their Saviour, and better serve the Lord we meet in his people.

Saint Luke’s has embarked upon a huge, ambitious rolling programme of improvement which began some 15 years ago with the complete re-ordering of our church, providing much needed facilities for the 21^st Century and beyond.  We are completely disabled friendly with access to our building with toilet facilities and with a deaf loop system, which ensures everyone is treated on an equal footing. 

Over the years we have added new toilets, a weekday chapel, a balcony, offices, kitchen, hall, landscaped grounds, exterior floodlighting, interactive screen and projector.  Our new plans for the future include a secure car park which alleviate the congestion around the building and offer great privacy and security for our church users.  The building of a new place of welcome, parish office, entrance vestibule and community rooms. 

We are at the early stages of this exciting new development with plans that have been drawn up by our Architect and we are now seeking funding to help this vision become a reality.
