Our Vision
Shortly after the appointment of our new
parish priest, Fr Nathan, we started to look at new ways of defining our
vision for the future of St Luke’s. It is important to keep looking
forward, as we were reminded by +Lindsay Urwin OGS when he opened our
new Welcome Centre.
There are many ways of trying to look to the future, and
ways of working our how well we are doing now. We decided to look at
ourselves under the following headings. We hope it gives you some idea
of where we want to go as God’s Community in Kingstanding. Welcome Welcome is so much more than saying hello with a smile on your face, and hoping that people will keep coming to church. It is about truly making the church a place which is open and friendly, free of cliques and small groups, which can and does put people off church life. We always try to make sure that every visitor is spoken to, and made to feel as if this could be a place for them to share their life of faith. We are working hard to make sure that all people of all ages, and from all backgrounds can find a place here at church. Exploration Without movement, without a real ‘going forward’, communities can stagnate and become boring and insular. This definitely does not apply to us here at St Luke’s! Over the last year for example, we have started many new initiatives which have drawn people from our local area into the life of St Luke’s. We now have a nurture group for young children and adults, we are in full swing with our monthly Messy Church events which have attracted between 65 and 85 children and adults. We are about to launch our new Community Allotment Scheme, ‘Dig for Victory’, a partnership with our local school and St Luke’s Church. The bishop will be opening it in April. We also continue to pray and have fun, and celebrate mass together each day of the week. Outreach A natural movement from exploration, is true outreach. When people feel fired up by God to do His work, we naturally want to share the good news with those around us. In addition to new ways of exploring faith, we have also produced our first newsletter, ‘Contact’ which is a great way of letting folk know what is going on in church. We are also engaging more with our Day Centre and Homestart, and Kings Rise School, with which we have a very close relationship.
